The Ohio State Buckeyes seem to be peaking at the right time. Playing good Buckeye basketball is what the school wants to see and it’s happening in the most exciting month in college basketball. Ohio State finished their regular season on a strong note. The Buckeyes defeated Rutgers Scarlet Knights 73-51 on the road to win their fourth-consecutive victory, on Sunday afternoon. The 22-point margin of victory tied the Buckeyes’ largest win at Rutgers.

The Buckeyes finish the regular season 19-12 overall and 9-11 in Big Ten play.

Ball movement was essential to their victory. The defense was impressive. The Buckeyes were in command all game long. The first quarter ended in a close score but the Buckeyes didn’t lose focus. The team did the most damage in the second half when they went on a 22-4 run. It sucked the energy out of the Rutgers team.

Ohio State finished the second half by outscoring Rutgers 43-23. The Buckeyes won the rebound game (37-29) and had eight blocks in total as a team. While Rutgers struggled from downtown making 4-of-22 (22%}, Ohio State made 45% of them (9-for-20).

Roddy Gayle Jr performed well once again. He led the Buckeyes with 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field. Bruce Thornton had himself a good game as well by adding 11 points and was phenomenal from the free throw line going 6-for-6. Forward Jamison Battle and center Felix Okpara combined for 20 points and five blocks. We also can’t forget the contributions Dale Bronner brought to this game. He was sensational as well by knowing down several threes. He finished the game with nine points.

What’s next for Ohio State? Three words…BIG TEN TOURNAMENT! That’s right. Ohio State has a chance to continue build momentum. Ohio State will travel to take on Iowa on the road for an exciting Big Ten matchup on Thursday night at 6:30 pm. The Buckeyes are quietly saying…ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! When it’s March, those words are more true than ever.
