After Sunday afternoon’s disaster of a finish, Browns fans needed some type of pick-me-up to start the work week. Well, the team was able to make a move in trading with the Atlanta Falcons for LB Deion Jones.

Via ProFootball Talk: Jones entered the league as a 2016 second-round pick (out of LSU) and has 652 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 11 interceptions, four forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries in six NFL seasons. He’s returned five of those interceptions for touchdowns.

The Browns needed to do something after the disastrous defensive performance this team had against the Chargers.

Cleveland gave up 465 total yards and this included a whopping 238 rushing yards. Los Angeles absolutely dominated the offensive side of the ball scoring 30 points in the 30-28 win.

Will this trade be a complete fix for the Browns? Well, of course not. The team has a ton of work to do in order to become a great defense. However, it certainly will help.

Financially – Jones is in the third of a four-year 57 million dollar contract. He has the highest cap hit on the team at 20 million, which puts him at $5 above the next biggest hit. Certainly, the Browns are taking a chance with this move and it’s the reason the Falcons wanted to get rid of him…

It looks like the front office will be swapping late-round picks. Cleveland is trading a 2024 sixth-round pick to Atlanta. The Falcons, in addition to Jones, will be sending a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Browns.

Jones is only 27 and has plenty left in the tank. He could be a crucial asset for this defense moving forward. Jones was on Injured Reserve for the first five games of the season. However, he is eligible to play at any time now.

The Browns host the Patriots at home this coming Sunday. Let’s see if this acquisition is of any help to a defense that is in desperate need of it.
