The Browns announced today they signed wide receiver Davion Davis to take the roster spot vacated by the retirement of wide receiver Derrick Willies. Davis spent 2019 as a member of the Minnesota Vikings practice squad appearing in two games, however, he did not register a reception. He was signed by the Vikings as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Sam Houston State University. At the beginning of the 2020 season, the Vikings signed Davis to a futures contract but ultimately released him prior to training camp in August.
In 2021 the 5-foot-11, 190-pound wide receiver spent time with the St. Louis Blues of the Spring League. He had 14 receptions for 223 yards and two touchdowns. The Browns invited him to participate in this year’s minicamp after the Spring League season was over. At Sam Houston State, Davis set school and Southland Conference records with 40 touchdowns in 39 games.
Because of his size and lack of speed, he is best suited for the wide receiver slot position. He now joins former Vikings teammate wide receiver Alexander Hollins on the Browns roster and will wear number 16.
