The band got back together up in Berea, Ohio. Not your Beatles or Rolling Stones, but instead your beloved Cleveland Browns. All the Browns players reported to the mandatory minicamp. Let me say that again, all the Browns players reported.
The last two weeks some not-so-loyal Browns fans bickered and griped about why Browns players like QB Baker Mayfield, and WR Jarvis Landry wouldn’t report to the voluntary OTA’s.
Let me say that again, too. Those OTA’s were voluntary.
Stop bellyaching you fair weather fans.
The best part of the Browns news was that players like CB Denzel Ward and RB Nick Chubb both shared their desire to sign new contracts with the Browns and play in Cleveland for a long time. Chubb, in his press conference, when asked about staying in Cleveland and its meaning said, “It’d mean a lot. Cleveland drafted me to come here and build a culture. Cleveland’s where I want to be.”
Ward said in his media spot, “Perfect world, I’d definitely want to be a Brown for the rest of my career. I’m from Cleveland. They drafted me. I enjoy being a Cleveland Brown and giving them everything I’ve got.”
Players like WR Odell Beckham were there in person too. Beckham, who had knee surgery seven months ago, didn’t even wear a brace while going through team drills.
Free-agent signings like DE Takk McKinley and DE Jadeveon Clowney were all on board as well.
Usually, when the band gets back together things are in the honeymoon stage for a while and then things go south again. The best part of this new Browns band is they are led by head coach Kevin Stefanski and for that reason alone, I don’t think the honeymoon will turn into a disaster anytime in at least the next five years.
Enjoy the show, Browns fans!
