Browns Make Smart Pick @ 10 in Offensive Tackle

The Cleveland Browns had the tenth selection in the 2020 NFL Draft and it was a unique one. Not because of who the team necessarily selected but because of the overall circumstances of the night. The commissioner announced the picks from his basement due to the pandemic society is facing across the entire world.

Hey, better safe than sorry!

Anyway, the Browns took Jedrick Wills Jr., an offensive tackle out of the powerhouse of Alabama. This is exactly what the team needed to further protect franchise quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Here’s Wills via cleveland.com –

“Excited to be a Cleveland Brown. It is a dream come true getting picked in the NFL Draft. Nothing but excited to get to work.”

Likely, Wills is going to be moved to the left side of the line to protect Mayfield’s blindside, which is extremely important for any quarterback. This young man is 6’4 and 312 pounds, so he clearly has the build despite being a bit shorter than average. Additionally, his feet are extremely quick, which gives him an advantage over defenders and blitzes.

Moreover, former Brown Joe Thomas reached out to him and will serve as a mentor in the future. That’s a great connection to have and will benefit Wills Jr. greatly.

Now, drafting an offensive lineman is not the sexy pick. However, it is the pick that is going to allow the star players on this team to further thrive in the future. It was certainly the smart move by GM Andrew Berry and company with that number ten selection.

No team wins a Super Bowl without a great offensive line. That is just a fact of football even if those guys aren’t scoring any touchdowns. Looking forward to seeing the newest addition of the Browns have success for many years!

Welcome to Cleveland, Jedrick Wills Jr. This is the best city on the planet…with the best fans!!!
