The Browns were able to extend safety Grant Delpit to a three-year, $36M contract extension with over $23M in guarantees. This coming before the game today against the Jaguars.
Via CBS: Delpit, 25, was a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. After missing his entire rookie season with an Achilles injury, Delpit was a part-time starter during his second season. He blossomed into a full-time starter in 2022. That season, he set career-highs with four interceptions, 10 passes defensed and 105 tackles through 12 games this season, Delpit has one interception, three pass breakups, a fumble recovery and 74 tackles to his credit.
Many would say Delpit is a top-five safety in the league and it goes to show with him getting rewarded with a contract extension such as this one.
Delpit was set to become an unrestricted free agent in March but that is null and void because of this.
The saying goes of course the defense wins championships. Obviously, it’s more than one player but having a great secondary certainly helps a team overall. Having Delpit over the course of the coming years is important for these Browns.
Let’s see if Delpit can continue to thrive over the next few years in helping this team contend.
