Browns Hire Jim Schwartz as Defensive Coordinator

After the Browns fired Joe Woods from the defensive coordinator position, the team was in search of a new one and have officially hired coach Jim Schwartz to fill the position. Schwartz is well-traveled but is most noted for his time with the Tennessee Titans as the defensive coordinator (2001-2008), the Detroit Lions as the head coach (2009-2013) and the Philadelphia Eagles (2016-2020).

The Browns also interviewed Pittsburgh Steelers defensive assistant and former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores for their defensive coordinator job, as well as Seattle Seahawks assistant Sean Desai and Philadelphia assistant Dennard Wilson. These three clearly did not fit what the team was looking for…

Schwartz is currently 56 years old.

Cleveland looks to turn the page from a tough year going 7-10 and not even getting close to a playoff opportunity. It will be interesting to see how this Schwartz hiring helps the Browns through the coming season and beyond.

Want to know a fun fact?

Schwartz was a personnel scout for the Browns from 1993-95 under then-Cleveland head coach Bill Belichick. Thus, he has already spent some time in The Land in the past.

Best of luck, coach Schwartz. We look forward to seeing how the defense improves next year.
