Browns DE Myles Garrett Placed on Covid-19 Reserve List

No! No! No! It can’t be! Not the Browns’ best player!
Yes, it was reported that Myles had been sent home from practice earlier this week with an illness, but that he had tested negative for Covid-19 at that time. Of course, no one wants to see a player sick with anything, but there was certainly a sigh of relief that it wasn’t Covid…
Well, as we all know, things change.
The next test on Garrett for the virus came back positive and thus the star defensive end was placed on the Covid-19 Reserve List and will not play on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have a horrid offensive line and it certainly would’ve been a field day for Garrett.
This is a player that already has 9.5 sacks and four strip-sacks in nine games played this year. Every offensive line has to take into account the fact that Garrett is on the other side of that line. It is quite a task to slow down this superstar. It would literally take, like, a pandemic or something.
Too soon? Sorry.
Anyway, because the Eagles are not a very good team at a 3-5-1 record, it’s probably one of the better weeks for this to happen to the star of the Browns. The team can still overcome this and win a home game against a team that stinks. Other players on the defensive line are going to have to step up. It will be interesting to see how coach Stefanski re-aligns the defensive line with the loss of its anchor. A possibility is bumping DT Larry Ogunjobi to the defensive end spot, or just have backup Porter Gustin get some first-team reps.
Another problem is Garrett could miss next week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The player that contracts the illness has to be away from the team for 10 days and get medical clearance to return. However, since Garrett was home with a sickness that ended up being Covid, the “clock” could have already started on him earlier in the week.
Maybe he’ll be back. Maybe not…
It’s a big blow to lose a defensive beast in Garrett, but I still see the Browns winning on Sunday. If this was a battle against the Steelers or Ravens, it’d be a different story.
All of us at CST wish Myles a safe and speedy recovery. This virus has really been terrible to society as a whole and it would be nice for it to be over.
