Browns’ 2018 Draft Grades

(#4) The Pick: CB Denzel Ward

Grade: B+

Almost everyone was expecting the pick to be Bradley Chubb. Instead, the Browns chose to go corner at this pick. The Browns must feel really comfortable with Myles Garrett and Emmanuel Ogbah to pass on Chubb.

During his three years at Ohio State, Ward amassed 67 total tackles, 24 passes defended, two tackles for loss and two interceptions.

It was a shocking pick, but it makes sense. Current Browns DC Gregg Williams likes to build his defense from back to front. Sending pressure is a norm for Cleveland’s defense and if the pressure doesn’t get there, the team is toast. Not only does adding Ward give the defensive line more time to get to the quarterback but vice versa.
