3rd Down and Goal: The defense needs to force turnovers

A year ago, the Browns defense was forcing turnovers and because of that were winning games. They had 21 takeaways last season, which included 11 interceptions. This year, in contrast, the team only has eight forced turnovers with five interceptions. Not the kind of numbers that are going to help the team win games.

Last week the Browns played the New England Patriots. They turned Cleveland over and they won the game easily 45-7. This season, the Patriots have 18 interceptions already. That’s tops in the league. The Browns’ measly five picks don’t look so hot when you stack them up to New England.

The defense knows they were humiliated last week. I would expect a stellar performance by the team this week. The season is on the line and those cornerbacks like Greg Newsome II and safety’s like John Johnson III need to be ready to take a pass back for a pick-six.
