Well, they really did it.

After all the talk and speculation the Cleveland Cavaliers have fired head coach JB Bickerstaff. This after the team went 48-34 in the previous regular season and finished as a four seed in the East losing to the Boston Celtics in the second round – five games.

Bickerstaff, age 45, became the Cavs head coach during the 2019-20 season. The team went 170-159 with him in command overall.

Now, there will be plenty of speculation about the reasons why the Cavs made this move and it will likely come out in the coming days. My guess and I have said this plenty of times is that a lot of this has to do with Cavs star Donovovan Mitchell.

If I’m in charge, I say to Mitchell. “Hey buddy, what do you want us to do with JB and if you want him gone who do you want to take over in order to keep you here in Cleveland?” Anything to make our star happy, right?

It appears as if the team is disappointed in the lack of progress the squad is making with the amount of star players on the roster in guard Darius Garland plus bigs Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley too.

Frankly, after five seasons it felt like it was time to move on. However, in defense of Bickerstaff, when three of your top players get hurt in the Boston series, it wouldn’t be easy for any coach to take a team to the promised land. Even so, this was more than just that series and the entire landscape was certainly in considering.

“J.B. is a well-respected NBA coach and an incredible human-being,” says Koby Altman. “Over the past four years, he helped establish a culture that progressively drove players to become the best versions of themselves. Decisions like these are never easy, particularly when you look back at where this franchise rebuild started under his leadership.”

Thanks, JB for your service over the years and the CST Team wishes you the best of luck in the future.
