BREAKING: Browns Hire Mike Vrabel As Coaching and Personnel Consultant

0

The Browns continue to make moves this offseason and this one is within the coaching staff. The team has signed former head coach Mike Vrabel to be the personnel consultant alongside head coach Kevin Stefanski and defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

One has to treasure the coaching staff even more now after this signing.

Via PFT:

“A three-time Super Bowl champion as a player, Vrabel was also named the AP coach of the year in 2021 after leading the Titans to a 12-5 record.

In six seasons under Vrabel, the Titans were 54-45 with a 2-3 postseason record. The team advanced to the AFC Championship Game in 2019 but did not win a playoff game after finishing first in the AFC South in the next two seasons.”

Thus, the Titans felt the need to move on from the coach because of missing the playoffs in said seasons. A few teams were linked with Vrabel as a possible head coach but that never panned out.

Many remember Vrabel as a member of the Ohio State Buckeyes from ’93-’96 at the linebacker position.

He played for the Steelers, Patriots and Chiefs in the NFL. Coached as a head coach for the Titans from 2018-2013 as stated above. Vrabel retired as a player in ’10. He was done playing with 769 tackles, 57 sacks, 11 interceptions and 19 forced fumbles.

Vrabel is currently 48 years old and from Akron, Ohio. Thus, a native of these parts is likable for sure.

This move brings a great defensive mind to the organization alongside some great coaches already here. It will be great to see how the likes of Vrabel help players in the defense such as DE Myles Garrett, DT Shelby Harris, DE Za’Darius Smith amongst others.

It’s unlikely to bring any problems to the organization and hopefully with lead Vrabel to a potential head coaching job in the future with another team after not receiving any offers this offseason.

The only question I would have is why didn’t a team want him as a head coach. It may just have not been the right time or circumstances. Still love this move by the Browns, that is for sure.

Welcome to Cleveland, Mike Vrabel. Let’s get to destroying QB Russell Wilson and the Steelers, amongst many other offenses around the league with this new mind helping out this year. We can’t wait to see what you bring!
