Best Fits for the Top-Five Quarterbacks in the 2018 Draft
Sam Darnold
California Sam, Super Bowl Sam, Sammy Cleveland, whatever you want to call him, Sam Darnold is still probably the safest selection at quarterback in this draft.
The communication major out of USC has the lowest potential to bust in this entire class. Darnold has great size as well as a great arm. The knock on Darnold is his inability to hold onto the ball. Even with a great Juju Smith-Schuster, Darnold threw nine interceptions in 2016. In 2017, he threw 13 picks without Juju.
Are interceptions and fumbles a problem? Absolutely. There’s no way around it. You have to be able to hold onto the football in the NFL.
Regardless, Darnold made some incredible throws downfield and showed talent on the move. The Cleveland Browns should select Sam Darnold with the No. 1 pick in the draft as he is the safest pick.
Darnold should ride the pine his entire rookie season and let Tyrod Taylor and Drew Stanton run the team, but eventually, he could be the QB of the future in The Land.
