The season seemed to be over before it started for the Buckeyes. Heisman hopeful Braxton Miller was lost for the season after suffering a collarbone injury in practice. Immediately the hopes of the entire team were placed on the shoulders of freshman quarterback J.T. Barrett. Barrett has exceeded all expectations by leading the Buckeyes into the playoff picture, and himself into the conversation for the Heisman.
J.T. Barrett was a relative unknown before the season, but is now considered one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. Barrett has put the team on his shoulders and carried the Buckeyes to where they are now. It’s hard to play any better than Barrett has this season. He has already broken Ohio State records in total touchdowns in a season with 42, and has also entered the record books in total yards. He is only one touchdown away from breaking Drew Brees’ Big Ten record for total touchdowns. DREW BREES! Barrett is 1st in the nation in total touchdowns, 2nd in passing touchdowns, 3rd in passer rating, and 5th in yards per play. The scary thing is he’s still only a freshman.
Barrett has handled every situation with confidence. He never appears to be overwhelmed by the big stage. He’s also learned from every situation he’s been in and improved. After losing to Virginia Tech, JT Barrett has led this Buckeye team to new heights. He has proven he has the ability to take control of game in hostile environments like Penn State and Michigan State. He won’t fold under pressure in the big games, he’s already shown that.
Barrett has his biggest test in front of him, The Game. We’ll see how he handles this stage. Could we have a quarterback controversy going into next season? There won’t be one if Barrett keeps playing like this.
How high can the Freshman carry this OSU team in the rankings?
