Baker Has a Bright Future, Even in Loss
The Browns lost 29-13 on the road to the Houston Texans and are now 4-7-1 on the season. Basically, the playoffs are out of reach for this year, but that was a long shot, anyway. Starting quarterback and rookie, Baker Mayfield, went 29/43 for 397 yards and threw one touchdown. He did have three costly interceptions, which hurt the Browns tremendously.
Even in what some would consider a blowout loss, I saw plenty of great throws from Baker, which make me optimistic about the future. Sure, he made mistakes and those lead to the three interceptions. A fumble by WR Antonio Callaway near the goal line did not help the cause either.
Clearly not the best day for Baker Mayfield, but he ended up setting the Browns rookie record with his 397 passing yards and was first NFL QB in 2 years to have 350+ in the second half.

Almost reaching 400 yards passing is pretty impressive, especially with the way the Browns lost. I was not expecting this team to reach the playoffs and frankly seeing the progression from Baker is most important. He was firing the ball on the run to either sideline and hitting his target with precision.
I was impressed.
Yeah, of course, I want to win every game the Browns play. However, seeing that type of performance from Baker made me feel good despite the loss. Even the Texans’ defense was impressed:
Two things out of the #Texans locker room. 1) a lot of respect for Baker Mayfield. Multiple vets on the defense believe he’s going to be the real deal. Two compared him to Brees. 2) They believe they’re the most complete team in the league. All three phases carry their weight.

Next week, the Browns are back home against the Carolina Panthers. I expect another big performance from the rookie as he continues to progress! Go Browns!
