With the Browns losing star running back Nick Chubb to injury this past Monday, the team needs some support to supplement that loss on offense. While Jerome Ford did his best once Chubb went down, Nick Chubb is arguably the best running back in the NFL these past few seasons and the team will definitely miss his level of offensive production.

Enter Kareem Hunt, the Browns reunited with the veteran running back following the injury to Nick Chubb, in hopes that he can supplement the offense while their first option recovers throughout this season. For his career, Hunt has just over 4,000 yards on about 900 rushing attempts. Furthermore, while not on the level of Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt will also give Deshaun Watson another reliable receiving target out of the backfield as they attempt to make the playoffs and win it all. Kareem Hunt played his past four seasons with the Browns before they let him walk this past offseason. As for his new deal, it’s reported that Hunt signed a one-year deal worth up to $4 million to bolster the team’s running back room. Kareem Hunt was the NFL rushing champ just six years ago during the 2017 NFL season and paired with Chubb, the duo was widely considered the best running back pairing in the league.

It’s widely expected that with Nick Chubb out for the season, Hunt will once again be the #2 option in Cleveland behind Jerome Ford. Give Ford the respect he deserves as well, once Chubb went down on Monday night, Ford stepped up and rushed for 106 yards with an average of 6.6 yards per carry in the absence of their #1 running back. The addition of Kareem Hunt is also beneficial to the Browns simply because he’s familiar with their offensive schemes and won’t have much of an adjustment period when integrated into their offense.

While the injury to Nick Chubb is a devastating blow dealt to the Browns, the team still has a few reliable options to step in for their star back. Unfortunately, the fact of the matter is that Nick Chubb is an irreplaceable player within that offense. There are certain players that just have that next gear, high-caliber players that are extraordinarily significant in regards to producing on offense and giving the team various options to help win games. Wishing nothing but a speedy recovery for the NFL’s best running back, and hoping that their backups can hold down the run game until Nick Chubb takes the field once more.
