The Cleveland Browns play football tonight.
Yes, it’s just preseason, but so what? The Browns will play their first of four preseason games when they host the Washington Redskins. Leading up to tonight’s game has been one of the most hyped-up offseason in franchise history. The buzz around the Browns is louder than a swarm of bees and fans are chomping at the bit for some action tonight. Despite this being just an exhibition game, everyone in Northeast Ohio is ecstatic to see their team on the field.
With that being said, Freddie Kitchens may be sitting his stars Baker Mayfield, Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Nick Chubb, Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward to avoid the risk of injury. However, even if the Browns starters don’t get a lot of playing time, the public will get its first look at Kitchens’ coaching style.
Expect the Browns to throw the football quite a bit.
One of the things the coaches want to look at is how well the team does in pass protection. We may not see much of Beckham or Landry but should get a good dose of Derrick Willies, Jaelen Strong and Ishmael Hyman. Finally, the duel will continue between kickers, Greg Joseph and Austin Seibert, who should alternate kicks tonight as they compete for the nod.
On the other side of the ball, the Redskins are parading rookie QB Dwayne Haskins out to play tonight in front of the sold-out crowd at First Energy Stadium. Former OSU star Haskins was one of the biggest names in this year’s draft and he may very well get the opening day nod over the more experienced Case Keenum.
Can the Browns live up to the national hype that has been crowned upon them? Many would say yes as Baker Mayfield is now the unofficial King of the Land. Let’s relish in the excitement of the first time in recent history that the Browns enter a season laying claim to a flock of star players expected to lead Cleveland to the top of the AFC North.
