5. Cleveland Cavaliers – Obi Toppin
Per Jason Lloyd of the Athletic, the Cavaliers are between Obi Toppin and Deni Avdija. Koby Altman seems to be more interested in Toppin, while other front office members reportedly like Avdija more. So whoever falls to them at five seems to be the obvious pick. Toppin, who played at Dayton last season, won’t have to deal with much of a change in scenery but will have a limited role if the Cavs keep all of their bigs from last season. At 22, he is on the older side of prospects, but teams are counting on them adapting to the higher level easier than other players. The Cavs may want to continue to tank to have a high pick in the stacked 2022 draft class (as that is the year many think the NBA will allow 18-year-olds to enter the draft), but as their team hasn’t shown much promise in the past couple seasons, they may also be looking to make a pick that can help them in the short term to give their fans some hope.
