For tonight’s Cavs game against the Suns, Allie Clifton will serve as the color analyst in place of Austin Carr. The Cavs legend will miss tonight’s game because of funeral arrangements for his brother, Roderick Carr.
Obviously, these aren’t the ideal circumstances for Allie to make her debut as the Cavs color analyst. But, this is still an achievement for her and I’m excited to hear her in this role. She’s been fantastic her entire career as a sideline reporter. She’s extremely knowledgeable of the game and has built a close relationship with the team over the course of her tenure. If her personality is able to carry over on tonight’s broadcast like it does on the Road Trippin’ podcast, she will serve as an excellent complement to play-by-play man, Fred McLeod.
When asked earlier today if she will use any of Austin Carr’s catchphrases, Allie said she doesn’t know yet and it’ll be a spur of the moment decision. Hopefully, we’ll hear her yell “throw the hammer down!” at least once in his honor. Whether she decides to use his sayings or not though, she should have plenty of opportunities to work a few catch phrases out since they’re playing the Suns.
