This was a statement win for the Cleveland Browns.
40-25, on the road, against the division-rival Ravens. The haters roaring their disapproval all week long and Browns fans nervous that this may not be everything we dreamed of this past offseason.
I loved how the team consistently ran the ball with Nick Chubb. He amassed for 165 yards and a whopping three touchdowns including an 88-yard gallop. Chubb kept the clock moving and the momentum on the Browns’ side the entire contest.
Baker was very good and only made one mistake (partly to blame on the receiver). Odell Beckham Jr. served primarily as a decoy and it worked as Jarvis Landry had eight catches for 167 yards and Ricky Seals-Jones had three catches for 82 yards and a touchdown.
The defense did a very good job of containing Lamar Jackson and not letting him out in space as a runner. Additionally, two interceptions and four sacks helped the cause. Plus, a crucial fumble by Mark Ingram on a hard hit changed the game.
Now, one can say that the Ravens, coming into the affair, were a bit overrated, which I believe to be true. However, they are still a solid team and it was a very good road win for the Dawgs.
This team did not want to start the season off 1-3 and was tired of the haters. Frankly, there is still plenty to clean up, but Cleveland sits in first place after four weeks.
That’s good enough for me.
Despite being a solid decoy, I want to see OBJ get more involved in the coming weeks because it won’t work for long without his contribution.
The Browns head to San Fransisco to face the 49ers on Monday Night Football next week. They’re 3-0 and had a bye this week. It’s going to be yet another test.
What I loved most about this game (and week) is everyone on the Browns kept their cool. From head coach Freddie Kitchens on down, the moment was not too big for the squad and it showed with the way they played and won a crucial matchup. That’s what great teams do and I loved seeing it from the brown and orange.
Enjoy the win.
It’s going to take another hard week of practice plus ignoring idiots on TV and Twitter. Keep this mentality and the end result of the year could be really great.
Go Browns! #DawgCheck
