After taking the four game opening series from the Lansing Lugnuts, the Captains (3-1) took road trip to Clinton, Iowa to face the Clinton Lumberkings. This is the first series of a Western Division road trip.
Lake County won the first game of the series by a score of 6-5. Lake County sent RHP Mitch Brown to the mound as the starter. Brown went 4.2 innings and only gave up one run. Matt Whitehouse came in to relieve Brown, but gave up 4 runs in 3 innings. Cody Ferrell hit a 2-run home run in the 6th inning off Ramire Cleto, which was his second of the season. Claudio Bautista picked up his 5th RBI of the season.
On Wednesday, LHP Luis Lugo took the mound against Edwin Diaz of Clinton. Lugo gave up 4 runs in 3.2 innings pitched. Lumberkings pitcher Edwin Diaz fanned eight and limited the Captains to only two hits in 5 scoreless innings. Lake County’s only run came from an RBI double from shortstop Dorssys Paulino. The Captains lost 4-1.
In the series finale, the Captains sent out Dace Kime. Kime had a rough outing, giving up eight runs in only 3 innings. Clinton pounded out 14 hits in the game, which included 2 home runs. The Captains lost that one by a score of 12-2.
Lake County fell to 4-3 on the season. They travel to Kane County for the next series.
