The 2015 MLB First Year Player Draft will take place today, Monday June 8th at 6:00 PM in New York City. The Indians have three top-60 picks. Their first round selection will be at #17. They also have picks at 42, and 59.
Here are a few top candidates for the Indians #1 pick.
LHP| Kolby Allard| San Clemente H.S. (Calif.)
The 17 year old out southpaw out of California is only 6’0 tall but can get his fastball up to 96. He also has nice curveball, and a changeup that could still use some work. The UCLA commit is dealing with a stress reaction in his back that he suffered in late march, and should be back from it anytime.
RHP|Mike Nikorak| Stroudsburg HS (Pa.)
Rated the top high school pitcher in the country Nikorak is tall right hander. The 6’5 18 year old can get his fastball up to 97, and sits comfortably at 94-96. He has a plus curveball, and a good changeup as well. He is committed to Alabama.
Nikorak is my prediction for the Indians at #17.
RHP|Phil Bickford| CC of Southern Nevada
Bickford was drafted at #10 overall by the Blue Jays in 2013 but did not sign. The righty went on to pitch for Cal State Fullerton, but then transferred to CC of S. Nevada so that he would be eligible for the 2015 draft. His fastball can reach 98 at times, and he has a plus slider. He will need to work on his changeup. Watch for Bickford to be a sleeper for the Indians at #17
The Indians will have a total of four picks in the first three rounds. The draft begins at 6:00 PM on MLB Network.
