2015 Cleveland Indians Top 10 Prospects

6. OF/1B Mike Papi

A product of the Indians’ 2014 draft class, Papi struggled in his first experience in professional baseball. This may have been a result¬†of a long college baseball season in which his Virginia Cavaliers made it all the way to the College World Series Final, losing to champion Vanderbilt. Either way, Papi should fare much better than his .181/.301/.271 line that he put up in Lake County.

One element of his game that Papi always possesses, slumping or not, is his great eye at the plate. His 61 walks led the NCAA and broke a UVA school record. Even in his time with the Lake County Captains, the 22 year old still managed to log 26 walks in just 39 games played. Additionally, he possesses a strong hitting ability that could eventually pay him dividends. He is not necessarily a big-time slugger, but he has a nice bat speed that translates into some good pop.
