13 Years Ago My Life Changed Forever

“You’ve had everybody else biting their nails. So I guess it’s time for them to stop chewing. The answer to the question everybody wants to know: LeBron, what’s your decision?
In this fall, this is very tough, in this fall I’m going to take my talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat.
The Miami Heat? That was the conclusion you woke up with this morning?
That was the conclusion I woke up with this morning.

That was it. 13 years ago my life along with the lives of not just Cleveland Cavaliers fans but simply the NBA World changed forever as LeBron James decided to leave The Land for Miami.

First, let’s look back.
LeBron made the finals in all four years of playing for the Heat. He won them in two of those years, ’12 and ’13. Thus, the choice of his to build a super team with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh worked out well for The King.

What’s interesting to think about is how this decision by LeBron reminds me of the movie Back to the Future. What?
Yes, it’s the fact that LeBron had to leave in order to eventually come back to win a title in Cleveland. We all know about that glorious comeback in 2016 down 3-1 to the Golden State Warriors.
It’s interesting to think about if LeBron stayed in Cleveland past the 2010 season and into his Miami Days. So it being his 8th season and beyond, how would the future have worked out if loyalty panned out over super teaming? There is no way of knowing if that success would’ve happened had he never left in the first place.
Now, I think LeBron James is the greatest player to ever play the game of basketball. I know a lot of Michael Jordan lovers will not be happy with that statement and it’s reasonable to understand why. Obviously, my biases are there from all of the glorious days of LeBron in Cleveland and that will never change.

What’s the weirdest part of this all is I hated that motherfucker in LeBron James so much I literally wanted to kill that man. Let’s take a look:

It’s amazing to think about the paradox of a player that went from so loved, to so hated, to so loved again.
That doesn’t happen often.
I respect The King. The dude made a choice and had to endure so much hardship and hatred from a fanbase here in Cleveland. It’s not to say they were wrong but simply that it was a factor in his career.
LeBron came back, though. Made up for winning no titles in Cleveland and took the team all the way in 2016. It was magical.

The scariest part of this all is there may never be a player quite like LeBron James that suits up for a game of basketball. So appreciate the star players on each team because they may not be around forever.
LeBron was…and then he wasn’t…and then he was…and then he wasn’t.
